BRIDAL SHOWERS.....SHOWERING THE BRIDE..READ ON...CIRCA 1996
AFTER going thru my own personal home library, I found an everyday book of etiquette, and a Chapter on "Bridal Showers" caught my eye! The book was published in 1996, and "Bridal Showers" of 1996 have in many ways been replaced today by "Bachelorette Parties!"
Bridal Showers were either given by the Mother of the Bride in most cases, OR both the Mother's of the Bride and the Groom. There would be all the Bridesmaids present, close Relatives, and very intimate friends invited to either a luncheon and a restaurant, or a disclosed destination. Formal written Invitations would be mailed out, and you would be expected to respond to whether or not you were planning to attend.
The Bridal Shower can be a brunch, lunch, or dinner, or lighter appetizers. A response is always expected, and you always brought a gift from the Bride's Bridal Registry, or a theme would be announced on the invitation such as appliances, kitchen, bath, lingerie, and so on, and guests attending would bring a gift related to the theme. If you could not attend, you still were expected to send a gift!
There would be a specially decorated cake, which is usually served with dessert with coffee or tea.
Written "Thank You" cards were mailed out to all the guests attending and to the ones who could not attend and have sent a gift.
Everyone invited to the shower would also be invited to the wedding.
Would you say things have changed from 1996 to 2012????

We are all on a budget when planning a wedding. One of the most important purchases is your wedding dress.
Our recommendations are to buy from local " Authorized Dealers" who can offer the best Bridal gown you are dreaming of at the best price available. There are too many Chinese Websites who undersell authorized products we offer at unheard of low unbelievable prices, only to cause dissapointment and heartache later.

Alterations...the truth is ARE THEY REALLY FREE?
There are privately owned Bridal Salons that do offer "FREE ALTERATIONS ALONG WITH A FREE VEIL" included with your Bridal Gown purchase.
Brides-beware of ANY Bridal Salon that offers anything FREE with your Purchase, especially what is the most important is ALTERATIONS. With over 35 years in Couture Design, and in all types of Alterations including Bridal Gowns and MORE...alterations cost money if they are to be done appropriately, and there is no way under the sun they are "FREE". What is often done to make a bride believe she is getting "FREE ALTERATION SERVICES" IS the retail cost of the Bridal gown is overly inflated to the point the average cost of the alterations is included in the cost of the dress and averaged out in the store owner's inventory. This means you are STILL being charged for your alterations, and this is often a trick shops use to get a Bride to buy!!!!!! It's the same with offering a free veil or headpiece. It's also incorporated into the cost. You are paying for everything when you sign that charge slip or put your cash out on the table !
The average cost of Bridal Alterations cost anywhere from $250.00 and up depending what is needed and often a Couture Seamstress will not know the exact cost of what needs to be done until the dress is fitted, then taken apart and each lining counts as a dress, and shortening a hem is often estimated by the amount of yardage needed to be removed and the time it needs to be hemmed and the number of fittings. SO, YOU tell me, how can all this work be FREE???
Word of wisdom- any Bridal Salon that offers FREE ALTERATIONS ...ask a lot of questions! Take that dress elsewhere to someplace that knows what they are doing and has had many years experience in either making Wedding Dresses and is an REAL EXPERT because it will be worth every dollar spent! A good Salon will refer you to a Professional who has experience and works closely with the Salon..and it becomes a "Team effort." We care how the outcome of your gown will fit you on your wedding day and save you the tears later of "unprofessionally "done alterations that are FREE.

BRIDAL GOWN SHOPPING TIPS
Always call ahead and see if an appointment is needed.
Prior to your appointment, look at some of the most popular Bridal Magazine Publications to get an idea of what type of gown "catches" your eye. Bring this picture with you to the appointment and show your Consultant.
Bring a pair of heels you will likely be wearing, and a strapless bra for trying on gowns. Usually gowns will have built-in bras, and body shapers that will flatter your figure.
Bring a friend or family member (or both) whose opinion you value and trust, however, this is not always necessary. Brides are known to make their own decisions!
Try on 3-4 gowns that really "speak" to you! Usually you will buy the first gown you will try on, and usually the one you least expect that is one of your choice. Once you have said "YES" to your dress, don't look back and give yourself a sigh of relief...proceed to complete the planning of your wedding venue.
If your gown needs to be ordered, it can take up to 20 weeks to arrive. A deposit is required to order the dress if this is the case and not unusual. If a "rush" order is needed and special measurements, there is always an extra charge for this. Some companies require full payment as the deposit..this varies from designer to designer....We want you to be happy with your choice!
Alterations may or may not be included. A consultant will fit you for the gown. A Full Service Salon will have referral for your Alterations or feel free to take your gown to someone you feel comfortable with..there are many choices!!! Choosing the right person do the alterations on your gown is a personal choice and you should not be "tied" to use anyone in particular.

DON”T PAY FOR AN APPOINTMENT! We’ve actually heard of unscrupulous store owners who insist on charging a bride to try on dresses. Seriously? If you come across this, shop somewhere else.
I wonder which store owners do that?? I have never heard of such a thing!
